Basic Degrees in Health Sciences
Student choice and right to study
The students are chosen to the education which leads to the degree of a Bachelor of Nursing Science and a Master of Nursing Science. Students will have Nursing Science as major subject and one minor subject as compulsory.
Objectives of Education
The objectives of the education are based on the Government Degree on University Degrees (794/2004). The task of the education is to produce know-how based on nursing science. The graduated Bachelors of Nursing Science and Masters of Nursing Science have readiness in creative, scientifically justifying tasks of the health field. Furthermore, the teacher training produces the competence for the acting as the teacher in the polytechnics and in other educational institutions of health care and social services.
Most of the studies are held in Finnish.

Structure of the degrees and required studies
The degrees of the Bachelor of Nursing Science and the Master of Nursing Science are two separate degrees. The degrees include one of the following minor subjects:

Didactics in nursing science and basic studies of education science or adult education science, or
-
Gerontological nursing science and administration and management in health care, or
-
Clinical nursing science and the administration and management in health care
Degree of the Bachelor of Nursing Science
The degree of the Bachelor of Nursing Science is a lower academic degree (180 credits). The scope of the major studies and subject studies is at least 60 credits. The studies include the candidate's thesis. The scope of the minor subject is 35 credits. The degree of the Bachelor of Nursing Science is a precondition for the taking of the degree of the Master of Nursing Science.
Degree of the Master of Nursing Science
The degree of the Master of Nursing Science is a higher academic degree (120 credits). The scope of the advanced studies of the main subject is at least 60 credits. The studies include master's thesis (30 credits). The scope of the minor subject is 35 credits. Furthermore, optionai studies (25 credits) are included in the degree. The degree of the Master of Nursing Science gives the readiness to apply for the postgraduate degrees.
