FALL3008 Basic Pharmacology for Exchange Students

 

The course consists of twelve group meetings, each lasting about 90 minutes. In addition self-study is an essential part of the course. There will be a written examination at the end of the course. The volume of the course will be 9 ECTS credits. The language will be English.

The purpose of the group meetings is to discuss the textbook chapters to be read before each meeting. One member of our teaching staff will be present as tutor. He or she will be there to ask and answer questions and to direct the discussion; no lectures will be given. The emphasis will be on the basic pharmacological aspects of the textbook chapters. Mechanisms of action are important; dosages and treatment schedules are not. It will be sufficient to browse through the paragraphs dealing with the clinical aspects.

The group meetings are based on the textbook Rang, Dale, Ritter & Moore: Pharmacology. Seventh edition, Churchill Livingstone 2011

 

The course will be arranged either fall or spring semester depending on need. In the first group meeting the dates and times of each seminars will be agreed. The written examination will take place after the last group meeting.
